"I know that I am mortal and the creature of a day; but when I search out the massed wheeling circles of the stars, my feet no longer touch the earth, but, side by side with Zeus himself, I take my fill of ambrosia, the food of the gods." -- Claudius Ptolemaeus

Solar Eclipse

This partial solar eclipse was photographed in Lynchburg on December 25, 2000.  It reached just over 50% occultation at 12:37pm local time.  The eclipse was part of the Saros 122 family.  The photo was taken through a Celestron 102mm Refractor.  Use of a 2X extender yielded an effective f/stop of f/10, at 1/250th sec.  The scope was equipped with Thousand Oaks Black Polymer solar filter material.
